Devon Media Room

Bespoke Media Room for a Premiership Rugby Player

Introduction

When a Premiership rugby player wanted to transform his double garage into an exceptional media room, he envisioned a space that was not just for watching TV and films but also optimised for gaming. The challenge was to create a sleek, high-performance environment while integrating his existing 75″ TV into a custom design that maintained a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

The challenge

The client’s priorities were clear:

  • A seamless, immersive entertainment experience.
  • Hidden equipment and wiring, with only the screen visible.
  • A high-quality audio system, supporting Dolby Atmos surround sound.
  • Intuitive controls, making the space effortless to use.
  • A visually stunning upholstered feature wall integrated with intelligent LED lighting.
  • The room has a very large window to the driveway in two fixed panes. Concern was placed on ventilation and light levels when watching films.

Our approach

To achieve this, we took a highly customised approach:

  • The wall was designed around his existing 75″ TV, ensuring perfect integration, with fabric wall panels carefully positioned so the TV sat precisely in the centre, creating a balanced and seamless aesthetic. These panels also excel at absorbing sound reflections, significantly enhancing the room’s acoustics and creating a far more comfortable and enjoyable space to spend time in.
  • A full 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos surround system with in-ceiling speakers and a hidden subwoofer in a bespoke cabinet delivered powerful, immersive sound.
  • A shadow gap ceiling detail created a clean, architectural finish that enhanced the visual appeal.
  • Colour-changeable LED strip lighting provided flexible ambience control, and adds a real ‘wow’ factor. Different colours for different times of day or activity. E.g. warm in the evening, cooler in the daytime.
  • A ventilation system was installed for optimal comfort. A large, centrifugal fan was installed in the roofspace of the adjoining utility room with discreet ceiling vents to remove stale air and allow fresh in.
  • Large single electric blackout blind operated from the wall switch or remote control, and mounted in to a custom slot in the ceiling so it’s invisible when up.
  • One-touch controls allowed effortless operation of all elements, from lighting to AV. One button press to turn on and off.
